This review is for Fireborne by Rosaria Munda.
When I resort to listening the to audible version of a book in order to get through it, that's a bad sign. This book was so easy to put down and forget about once I stepped away from it. The pacing felt like it dragged with not much to show for in the end.
Lee was completely annoying an unlikable in my opinion. I started to loathe his character and all the decisions he made. He claimed to be Annie's friend, but he felt too selfish to be a good friend to her. He constantly made decisions that made me want to scream some sense into him.
Annie was the only redeeming part of this book. I rooted for her the whole time, but I hated how she would settle. She deserved better in her best friend (Lee) and better in life in general.
The government systems in the book adds an interesting aspect it, but I couldn't get on board with the pseudo-communist government they were building. There was so many things broken in the new system, just like the old, which adds a realism that was nice, but there lacked hope for a better system or future. Having such a beat down throughout the whole book with each step the government took made this book more of a burden than an enjoyable read.
The author did a great job writing the book and her ideas and world she built are sound, but it just wasn't my cup of tea.
